Description

A World of My Own

A World of My Own is a deeply personal digital painting by Art By Nam, inspired by the peaceful beauty of Thanh Khê Beach in Đà Nẵng, Vietnam.

Golden sunlight spreads across the shoreline. Small fishing boats rest quietly on the sand and shallow water. In the distance, mountains meet the sea beneath a vast sky filled with warm gold, orange, blue and gray.

A solitary figure stands near the water.

Around him is an enormous landscape.

Yet he does not seem lonely.

He seems to be exactly where he wants to be.

That feeling is at the heart of A World of My Own.

Why This Painting Is Personal

I love the beach.

For me, the sea has always represented something more than beautiful scenery. It is a place where I can slow down, think, breathe, and simply enjoy being alive.

I lived in the United States for almost 25 years.

After so many years, I could have continued building my life there. But eventually I made a different choice.

I returned to Vietnam and came back to Đà Nẵng.

One important reason was simple:

I wanted to live closer to the kind of life that brings me peace.

Here, the beach is not somewhere I need to wait for a vacation to visit.

It can become part of everyday life.

I can look toward the sea, walk beside the water, watch the changing sky, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the coast.

A World of My Own grew from that feeling.

Thanh Khê Beach

The scene was inspired by Thanh Khê Beach in Đà Nẵng.

This is not intended as a photographic reproduction of one exact moment or viewpoint. Instead, the painting combines observation, memory, color, and emotion.

The small fishing boats were especially important to me.

They remind us that the beach is not merely scenery.

It is part of people’s lives.

The sea provides beauty, but it also provides work, food, movement, tradition, and connection.

In the painting, the boats rest quietly while the light changes around them.

They seem to belong naturally to the shore.

The coastline of Đà Nẵng continues to be an important part of the city’s everyday life and culture. To discover more about Đà Nẵng’s beaches and coastal experiences, visit the official Da Nang City Tourism Information Portal.

The Solitary Figure

Near the center of the painting stands a small human figure.

Compared with the enormous sky and sea, the person is almost insignificant in scale.

But emotionally, that small figure matters.

For me, the figure represents a person who has found a place where he can simply be himself.

There is no crowd around him.

There is nowhere he urgently needs to go.

Nothing needs to be proven.

For this moment, the sea, sky, beach and light are enough.

Being alone does not necessarily mean being lonely.

Sometimes solitude is freedom.

Sometimes peace begins when the noise disappears.

A World of My Own

The title came naturally from that idea.

A World of My Own does not mean shutting the rest of the world away.

It means finding a small part of this enormous world where life feels right.

For one person, that place might be a mountain.

For another, a quiet garden.

It might be a childhood home, a busy city, a little village, or simply a room filled with familiar things.

For me, it can be the beach.

The sound of water.

An open horizon.

Boats resting near shore.

Mountains in the distance.

And enough space to breathe.

Choosing Where to Belong

Living in another country for almost 25 years inevitably becomes part of a person’s life story.

Returning does not erase those years.

Nor does returning mean rejecting everything that came before.

Life is rarely that simple.

Instead, returning to Đà Nẵng became another chapter.

After spending many years far from Vietnam, I came to understand more clearly what I wanted from the years ahead.

Not necessarily more.

Sometimes, what we are searching for is enough.

Enough time.

Enough beauty.

Enough freedom.

Enough peace.

A place where an ordinary morning or evening beside the sea can make the day feel worthwhile.

Where Fire and Water Meet

One of my favorite contrasts in the painting is between the warmth of the sunlight and the coolness of the sea.

On the left, gold and orange seem almost to set the horizon on fire.

On the right, blues and grays move across the sky and water.

The two worlds meet in the center.

Warm and cool.

Light and shadow.

Energy and stillness.

Land and sea.

For me, those contrasts make the landscape feel alive.

The Boats at Rest

The small boats scattered along the shore provide a quiet rhythm across the composition.

Some are close.

Others almost disappear into the distance.

They are not moving quickly across the sea. They are resting.

That stillness matters.

A boat is normally associated with travel—with leaving one shore for another.

But here, the boats have stopped.

Perhaps that is another reason they belong in this particular painting.

After a long journey, there is also a time to stop traveling.

There is a time to arrive.

The Sky as Emotion

The sky occupies a large part of A World of My Own.

It is intentionally dramatic.

Thick expressive passages of gold, cream, gray, blue and deep navy move across the composition.

Rather than simply recording weather, the sky carries emotion.

The brilliant light suggests gratitude and hope.

The darker clouds add depth and remind us that peace does not require a perfect world.

Life can contain both light and darkness.

Beauty can exist beside uncertainty.

And sometimes the most extraordinary light appears precisely because clouds are present.

Returning Home

For me, the story behind A World of My Own can ultimately be expressed very simply.

I traveled far.

I lived somewhere else for many years.

And eventually, I came home.

Not because everything here is perfect.

No place is.

I came back because I wanted to spend more of my life close to the things that make me feel peaceful and alive.

The sea is one of those things.

And Đà Nẵng gives me the opportunity to enjoy it as part of ordinary life.

That is something I value deeply.

A Painting About Peace

Although this painting began with my own experience, I hope its meaning does not belong only to me.

Almost everyone has a place—or perhaps dreams of finding one—where life becomes quieter.

A place where we do not need to perform for anyone.

A place where we can look around and think:

This is enough.

That is A World of My Own.

Not a world separated from everyone else.

A place within the world where we finally feel at home.

A World of My Own được sinh ra từ cảm xúc ấy.

Đủ tự do.

Cuối cùng, câu chuyện của A World of My Own có thể được kể rất đơn giản.
